Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique identification number issued by the government of India to every individual resident of India.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is the responsible body for managing Aadhaar numbers and Aadhaar identification.

There are a number of cases where one loses an Aadhar card or does not carry the Aadhar card where needed. If such is the case, you can instantly download aadhaar card PDF from the official UIDAI site.

5 Ways to Download Your E-Aadhaar

E-Aadhaar is a password protected by an electronic copy of the Aadhaar card, which the competent Authority of UIDAI digitally signs.

e-Aadhar is password protected, and it is also digitally signed by the competent authority of the UIDAI. So all the information in your Aadhar will also be on your e-Aadhar Card.

Here are the different ways to download e-Aadhar from the UIDAI website:

1. Download by Using Your Aadhaar Number

The first way to know how to download your aadhar card is with the Aadhar number. If you have your Aadhar number with you and want to download and print your e-Aadhaar Card online, you need to follow the below-mentioned steps:

Step 1: Visit the official website page of Aadhar at https://uidai.gov.in/

Step 2: Take your cursor on the ‘My Aadhar’ tab.

Step 3: Click on the ‘Download Aadhaar’ option, or you can directly visit this link https://eaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/

Step 4: Select the Aadhaar Number’ option.

Step 5:  Now enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number. Select the ‘I want a masked Aadhaar” option if you do not want to show the full digits of your Aadhaar number.

Step 6: Enter the Captcha Verification Code and click the ‘Send OTP‘ option to get the one-time password on your registered mobile number.

Step 7: Enter the OTP received on your mobile number in the highlighted space.

Step 8: After entering the OTP, complete the ‘Take a Quick survey‘ questions on the same webpage and click ‘Verify And Download’ to download the e-Aadhaar Card.

Step 9: e-Aadhaar copy in PDF format will be downloaded in your system but remember it is a password-protected document. You need to type a password as shown below to view your e-Aadhar PDF.

2. Download Aadhaar Card by Using Enrolment Number (EID)

e-Aadhar Card can be downloaded from the UIDAI official website using the Enrolment ID (EID) present in the acknowledgement slip given during the enrolment process.

To understand how to download Aadhar card by enrollment number, you need to follow the below-mentioned steps:

Step 1: Visit the official website page of Aadhar at https://uidai.gov.in/

Step 2: Take your cursor on the ‘My Aadhar’ tab.

Step 3: Click on the ‘Download Aadhaar’ option, or you can directly visit this link https://eaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/

Step 4: Select the ‘Enrolment ID (EID)’ option.

Step 5: Enter your 14-digit enrolment ID number and 14-digit time and date values in the space provided.

Step 6: After that, follow the steps mentioned in the case of download by the Aadhar number above.

  • Enter the Captcha Verification Code and click on the ‘Send OTP‘ option to get the one-time password on your registered mobile number.
  • Enter the OTP received on your mobile number in the highlighted space.
  • Complete the ‘Take a Quick survey‘ questions on the same webpage.
  • Click ‘Verify And Download’ to download the e-Aadhaar Card.
  • And open it with the correct password.

3. Download Aadhaar Card by Using a Virtual ID (VID)

Another step in downloading an Aadhar card is through the Virtual ID (VID), the latest addition to UIDAI’s portal for e-Aadhaar download.

VID is a temporary 16-digit number that can be mapped to your Aadhar Card number, and one can not get your Aadhar number using the VID.

VID can be used if you don’t want to share your Aadhar ID for any processes requiring Aadhar ID.

In those cases, VID can be produced, and VID's validity is not mentioned as of now, and it will be valid till another new VID is generated. So one can generate a Virtual ID any number of times.

Follow the below-mentioned steps to download e-Aadhaar Card using the VID online-

Step 1: Visit the official website page of Aadhar at https://uidai.gov.in/

Step 2: Take your cursor on the ‘My Aadhar’ tab.

Step 3: Click on the ‘Download Aadhaar’ option, or you can directly visit this link https://eaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/

Step 4: Select the ‘Virtual ID (VID)’ option.

Step 5: Enter your 16-digit virtual ID (VID), full name, pin code, and the security code in the space provided to go ahead with the UIDAI Aadhar download process.

Step 6: After that, follow the steps mentioned in the case of download by Aadhar number above.

  • Enter the Captcha Verification Code and click on the ‘Send OTP‘ option to get the one-time password on your registered mobile number.
  •  Enter the OTP received on your mobile number in the highlighted space.
  • Complete the ‘Take a Quick survey‘ question on the same webpage.
  • Click ‘Verify And Download’ to download the e-Aadhaar Card.
  • And open it with the correct password.

4. Download by Using a DigiLocker Account

DigiLocker has collaborated with UIDAI to make it available to cardholders to link the DigiLocker account with Aadhaar.

It is a cloud-based platform for the issuance, storage, sharing and verification of documents and certificates in a digital form, which enables the registered organization to provide electronic copies into digital lockers allotted to the citizens of India.

Follow the below-mentioned steps to download Aadhaar from your DigiLocker Account-

Step 1: Visit the official website page of DigiLocker at https://digilocker.gov.in/ and click on the ‘Sign In‘ button

Step 2: Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number to log in to your DigiLocker account and click ‘Verifyto get an OTP in your registered mobile number.

Step 3: Enter the OTP received on your mobile number and click ‘Verify OTP’

Step 4: ‘Issued Document’ page appears, and you can download the e-Aadhaar using the ‘Save’ icon

5. Download by Using DigiLocker Account – Umang App

To download Aadhaar through Umang, applicants need to follow the simple process mentioned below::

Step 1: Download and open the Umang App from the play store (for Android users)

Step 2: Click ‘Aadhaar Card’ under the ‘all services tab‘.

Step 3: Click ‘View Aadhaar Card From DigiLocker

Step 4: Log in with your DigiLocker Account or Aadhaar number as mentioned above.

Step 5: Enter the OTP received on your registered mobile number and click ‘Verify OTP‘.

Step 6: Now you can download your e-Aadhaar by clicking on the download icon

Things to Remember

Here are a few things to note if you often wonder how to download my Aadhar Card-

  1. You cannot download e-Aadhaar if your mobile number is not registered with UIDAI.
  2. UIDAI sends an OTP to the registered mobile number for authentication before allowing you to download the e-Aadhaar Card PDF.
  3. You cannot download the Aadhaar card without entering the correct OTP.
  4. You can download the e-Aadhaar Card PDF as many times as you want.
  5. Downloaded e-Aadhaar can be used in place of your original Aadhaar card everywhere.
  6. After downloading the e-Aadhaar, you can get a printout by entering the 8-digit password.
